PORTLAND, Ore. — MAX Red Line service to Portland International Airport will resume Sunday after being shut down for four months, TriMet announced.
The closures were part of a $215 million project, "A Better Red." The funds, including $100 million from a federal grant, were used to expand Red Line service by adding more trains and a second track, as well as building new crossings over Interstates 84 and 205. The project also included fixing a pair of bottlenecks on the city's east side.
The MAX Red Line light rail service connects Portland International Airport, eastern and northeastern Portland, Portland City Center and Beaverton.
The light rail service had been unavailable since June 18. During that time, the Parkrose/Sumner, Mount Hood, Cascades and PDX Airport light rail stations were closed, with a shuttle bus loop running between them and Gateway Transit Center.
The reopening ends the latest and longest of closures to the MAX Red Line. The new Red Line service in Beaverton and Hillsboro is expected to open next fall.
