PORTLAND, Ore. — In January 2022, Lamar Hurd joined the KGW team as an on-air contributor.
Portland Trail Blazers' fans will recognize Hurd as he provides basketball analysis and insight on all Blazers broadcasts on Root Sports and across the team's social media channels. Prior to working with the Blazers, Hurd was a college basketball analyst for four year on the Pac-12 Network and has also broadcasted games for ESPN and Fox Sports Northwest.
Hurd graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in communications. While at OSU, he was the starting point guard, received all Pac-10 honors, shared the team's MVP award and was also named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team. In 2006, Lamar won the Pac-10 medal, which is awarded annually to only one male and female student-athlete at each of the conference’s institutions who best exemplifies excellence on and off the playing field.
Hurd still stays involved with the school in various ways, including as an active member of the Oregon State University Board of Trustees.
For a decade, he was involved with youth basketball throughout the Portland metropolitan. Together with his wife Bethany, he has started a tv show and web-based series called Hurd Mentality, documenting how their lives intertwine with community engagement.
His community features will be seen on multiple KGW newscasts, including the station's 7 p.m. weekday show The Good Stuff, which features positive things happening in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
