PORTLAND, Ore. — Kale Williams is a reporter at KGW focusing on environmental issues and climate change. He joined KGW in September of 2022.
He previous worked at The Oregonian/OregonLive, where he covered science and the environment, as well as public safety issues, COVID-19 and trending news.
Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, he was a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, where he covered breaking news.
Williams has won a number of awards, including two regional Emmys, a Scripps-Howard Award for environmental journalism and an award for Best Narrative Newspaper Writing from the Mayborn Institute.
He published a book, “The Loneliest Polar Bear,” in 2021 that chronicled the life of a young polar bear named Nora and examined how climate change is affecting her wild counterparts and the lives of Native Alaskans who live in the Arctic.
